~ FISHING REPORT ~
Updated 1/2/2025
Broken Bow lake is 3 ft above normal with water temps in the low 50’s at the time of the posting of this report. The lake is dropping with daily generations now and the water temps will continue to cool as we get into colder weather.
January is a great month for bass fishing, especially for both quality and quantity! All 3 species of bass including largemouth, spotted, and smallmouth can be caught during this time as you can see in the pics above.
3 good baits of choice to have rigged and ready that can provide consistent results day in and day out for these species are crankbaits, jerk baits, and swimbaits. The size and color patterns of these baits can and will depend on a couple of things, such as weather conditions for the day you fish, and also the water clarity that you are fishing. Both of these conditions will be changing, so be versatile and try different sizes and colors.
Main lake points, creek channel, and river points are always good places to start. Look for big brown chunk rock. Depths can vary from as shallow as 6-12 ft and can range out to as deep as 20 plus feet.
Another species that can be caught in the winter months are white bass. These fish will group up and once found, provide a lot of action. One of the best proven ways to catch this hard fighting fish is by vertically jigging a spoon in a 1/2 to 7/8 ounce size. A basic shad pattern color will produce results, but again, try other colors such as chartreuse and silver, purple and white, or just plain white. Depths to target are 25 to 50 feet. Deep main lake points, humps, and creek channels are good starting points. Shad is the key here, so good electronics help locate these schools.
